Library, Jaffna College, Jaffna

This library is designed by Archt. Anura Rathnavibhushana. It is the alma mater of Eng. Pulogasundaram who has worked with Geoffrey Bawa. That must be the connection for him to design this library. In modern parlance it can be labeled as a double skin structure. There is inner layer of walls with windows behind the concrete block grill. This square building has its all 4 roofs sloping into a central court yard. Water is collected to in-situ cast concrete funnel and column like downpipe. This should be noted as one of the 'pure' local modernist building.

Hindu Statues of Polonnaruwa Era

Hindu statues from the Polonnaruwa era are found in the numerous Hindu temples (kovils) within the ancient city, built by the Cholas and later maintained by Sinhalese rulers. Notable examples include the Siva and Ganesh Kovils, featuring restored foundations and statues, and the exceptionally well-preserved bronze statues discovered at Siva Devale No. 1, which depict deities like Siva, Parvati, and the dancing Siva.
